Chicken List Is Out Now Put Away The Honey-Do List!
Chicken List Is Out â" Now Put Away The Honey-Do List! Last week I encouraged you to get your Chicken List out and make a call. Just work through it. That encouragement does not tranfer over to the Honey-Do list. A job search is more than a full-time job. You almost have to create the wheel (well, unless you use JibberJobber), and reach deep inside to do stuff you havent had to do for a long time (create a resume, create elevator pitches, etc.). Its hard to change your mindset from sell my companys product to sell myself. And then on top of all of this you are the one that has to execute the strategy! Its a HUGE job! So why in the world do you think that you can knock things off the Honey-Do list? I know, you are now working from home. And you have time. And you need a break from the job search. I know you have a hole in the wall. I know your toilet needs some work. I know you should really paint, or weed, or change wallpaper, or shampoo the carpets so you can have a better work environment. But none of those things are really going to get you closer to getting your next job. Or next client. So put the Honey-Do list away until Saturday. Pretend that your new job (that is, the job of finding a job) has you tied up from early in the morning until dinner time and stop fooling yourself that doing Honey-Dos right now is a good use of your time. It isnt. Disclaimer: Im not trying to be sexist, or offensive change the name of the list if you want. This post is not intended just for those in a job search you know you have some kind of list that distracts you from doing important stuff. If you dont have a honey, I bet you still have your own to do list. Same thing. And finally, this is not a ticket to not do anything ;) Im just saying, there are some things that are not as high a priority as working on your job search (or career management, or small business development, or your job even if you are underemployed!). Interview with Guy Kawasaki aka the Godfather of Silicon Valley - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Interview with Guy Kawasaki aka the Godfather of Silicon Valley - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Guy Kawasaki is one of the original Apple employees responsible for marketing the Macintosh in 1984. He is currently CEO of Garage Technology Ventures, a venture capital firm which specializes in high-technology start-up firms located in Silicon Valley. Guy has been quite entrepreneurial as of the past few years, first with Truemors (a gossip news site) and now with Alltop, a social aggregator or as he calls it an online magazine rack. I attribute part of Personal Branding Magazines success to Guy because he gave me the right to his interview with Donald Trump for the Billionaire Brand issue back in August of 2007. My blog is listed in the career and branding section of Alltop, his new service. Today I interview the Godfather of Silicon Valley, Mr. Guy Kawasaki. Guy how do you define Alltop and what is the criteria for a blog joining one of your rosters, such as social media or small business? Alltop is an online magazine rack. Our goal is to aggregate news and opinion about a multitude of topics so that people have a starting point for finding information on the web. We discovered the power of aggregation by watching what Thomas Marban of Popurls was doing. Im curious as to the intended audience for Alltop. I would position it for a newbie/beginner who wants access to the top blogs instead of searching to find them. The intended audience is anyone with a browser and an Internet connection. ?? However, your positioning is accurate: its for people who havent figured out or dont know/care about manually aggregating feeds. We call this aggregation without aggravation. Its also for the power user who has a limited set of hardcore favorites but would like to graze over other sources and topics. I find celebrity endorsements very interesting on the web. For instance, Seth Godin just established a private network for his new book Triiibes, where you have to purchase the book to enter. If it was an unknown author, I bet it would have taken a year to reach 1,000+ registered users. How does your personal brand influence the acceptance of Alltop? My private network for my new book (Reality Check) is anyone with $25.00. ?? Im clearly no Seth Godin. My personal brand has been a big influence on the acceptance of Alltopno question. But so what? Isnt the purpose of developing a brand to use it as a competitive advantage? Not that Im in his league, but how many people would have bought Michael Jordans sneakers if it wasnt Michael Jordans sneakers? Michael Jordans sneakers What is the value of having your blog on Alltop? If you have a mega blog with millions of page views per month, Alltop probably wont move the needle. However, if you have an undiscovered gem of a blog, Alltop can certainly put you on the map by sending you traffic and building awareness. Incidentally, we find it very interesting that sites like the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, National Geographic, and NPR ask to be included on Alltop. How flattering is that? Why are traditional media sites promoted along with blogs? Which media sources do you value more? We make very little differentiation. Our responsibility is to find the best sources for news and opinion about our topics. If its the New York Times or one mommy blogger working on a kitchen table, we dont care. Quality is quality. Do you spend more of your time with Alltop these days, Truemors, blogging, speaking or investing in companies? It depends whos asking. ??

Ergonomics and productivity the anatomy of an effective home office
Ergonomics and productivity the anatomy of an effective home office Working from your own home can be an exciting experience because of the opportunities for new modes of efficiency, comfort and personal freedom that it offers. Peak productivity, however, can be negatively impacted if the office you create is too casual or if there is no clear demarcation from the rest of your domestic environment. Demarcation through design Comfort is, of course, a vital element in any office, but you simply wonât be able to shift the workload in one that is too comfortable and you need to be able to separate office and home activities to avoid unwarranted interruptions. The design of the office space is the most effective means of making this distinction from the outset. Positioning A home office doesnât have to be large but it does need to be separate from other areas of the home. Converting a spare bedroom is one solution, and when youâve settled on the area all your work should be kept within that space. Non-office space in the home should also be kept free of work-related materials as this will allow for proper relaxation out of office hours. Equipment The equipment needs to be efficient and fast, as these are critical factors in a small home office. Ask yourself whether you really need a color photocopier, for instance, or whether using the local print shop would be more cost-effective. A wireless hub is pretty much a necessity these days, allowing you to work from your laptop or desktop and enabling file sharing between different pieces of hardware. Youâll also need a separate office line for the phone, enabled for conferencing, messaging and speaker functions. Lighting Good lighting is another essential. Itâs best to use as much natural light as possible, supplemented by task and general lighting in the office. If the office is in a room without windows, such as a basement, you should investigate light sources that replicate daylight, and these should be full-spectrum and energy efficient. Dimmer switches are also a good idea. Ergonomics The functional office furniture you choose as a design element needs to be comfortable, flexible and safe. Adjustability and comfort are essential when you spend long hours looking at a monitor, and manufacturers have made significant improvements in these areas recently. Chairs with pelvis balance points are now available which are kind to the spine and back; itâs certainly worth investing in one or more of these. Color schemes Choosing the right color scheme is important because different colors elicit different physical and emotional reactions. Relaxation and peace are evoked by greens, violets and blues, yellow will grab attention, and red is the most energetic color. The rules here arenât hard and fast â" it really depends on your personal preferences. Just be sure to test out a few colors before moving in. To summarize You need to âownâ your office space and make it an extension of your personality â" a place that encourages focus rather than being cluttered with distractions.

Searching For Jobs In Jewish Family Services Resume Writing
Searching For Jobs In Jewish Family Services Resume WritingJewish family services resume writing is a great way to get ahead in your current position. You may be very familiar with this type of job, and if you aren't, it is a very good thing to know because these jobs are so hard to find. These service-based jobs require a great deal of dedication and effort, but once you find them, they will keep you waiting for a long time before you are truly satisfied. The first place to start searching for Jewish family services resume writing jobs is in online forums, which is where many people start their search. I suggest not even getting on the internet, unless you want to go straight to the forums, and that's just my opinion. It's much better to do a search for forums that are related to what you're looking for. For example, if you're looking for a job in Jewish family services resume writing, try searching for Jewish employment. The other thing to do is to contact the editor of a Jewish news paper or magazine, and ask if they have jobs that are focused on Jewish family services. Chances are, they will, and it may even be the only job that you will be eligible for.One more way to look for jobs related to Jewish family services is to go into the office of a synagogue. Many people associate Jewish jobs with synagogues, and this is why they make it difficult to find.Another place to look for jobs in Jewish family services is to go into the archives of the Jewish magazines and newspapers. It is important to make sure that you are not already working for one of these publications, since they tend to have a huge list of them. I would suggest looking online first, then searching for one of the archives. If none of these options seem to help you, and you still don't see what you're looking for, it may be time to contact an HR specialist who specializes in Jewish family services resume writing. This way, you will know that you will be able to achieve your goal and you will also be able to find the job of your dreams. In closing, remember that there are a lot of other ways to find jobs in Jewish family services resume writing, but they are all just off the beaten path. There is no need to waste your time doing something that may not result in a job in the end.Jewish family services resume writing may not be the best job for you to be looking for, but it can certainly pay off in the end, especially if you put your heart into it. Just remember that these jobs are hard to find, so don't give up hope, and remember that you can find the work out there, even if you didn't know where it was to begin with.

Festival in the workplace - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog
Festival in the workplace - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog What can your workplace learn from this guy? Business is about results, processes, achievement, success, goals and profits. Festivals, such as the carnivals in Rio and the Caribbean and other celebrations worldwide, are about music, dance, arts, self-expression, roots, traditions and fun. So businesses couldnt possibly learn anything from festivals, could they? My Bahamian friend Roosevelt Finlayson is here to tell you that not only can workplaces learn from festivals and carnivals its also good for innovation, team work and the bottom line. Hes been studying carnivals for a long time and, yes, his job does involve going to places like Rio, New Orleans, Barbados, Trinidad and cologne to study and participate in their festivals. The lucky bastard :o) Hes also been applying those insights to various organizations, and now The Global Intelligencer has picked up on it and written an article about his work. From the article: Finally there is a philosophy that can be used in the workplace that brings together productivity, a positive work ethic and an environment that the associates will enjoy. Festival in the Workplace has brought together the need to blend the personal needs of employees to attain self-satisfaction as well as the critical activity to achieve excellence for the employer and the customer. Check the article out its good reading. In my opinion, there are many aspects of carnivals that we could introduce in our workplaces that would create more happiness at work. And no, Im not talking about making ugly co-workers wear masks :o) What people often forget about carnivals is, that while the actual parade or performance looks fun, a lot of very hard work goes into it. In fact, Roosevelt started his work when he noticed that while many Bahamians seem to dislike their jobs and always do as little as possible, they would work very hard to prepare for the annual Junkanoo celebration. And according to Roosevelt, this work goes so well because in a festival: Everyone is equal Everyone learns from everyone else People want to be there People work hard without being told People care about the end result Doesnt that sound like a fairly good work culture to you? Thanks for visiting my blog. If you're new here, you should check out this list of my 10 most popular articles. And if you want more great tips and ideas you should check out our newsletter about happiness at work. It's great and it's free :-)Share this:LinkedInFacebookTwitterRedditPinterest Related Festival in the workplace - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog I had the pleasure yesterday of speaking with Roosevelt Finlayson and Michael Diggiss who are working in the Bahamas on something they call the Festival In The Workplace. It arises from the question of: How is it that many persons who are going at half pace or less on the job, get involved in more creative activities outside of the workplace, such as the annual Junkanoo festival, and become transformed, passionate and highly productive individuals? In other words, how can you bring the dedication and spirit that people display when they work on eg. the Junkanoo festival or the Rio Carnival to the job? You can read their introduction to the project, it certainly brought a smile to my lips. Talking to Roosevelt and Michael was a pleasure, and it was wonderful to discover that we share many of the same ideas and dreams. I admire their vision and dedication, and I find the mere idea of the Festival In The Workplace to be intriguing and inspiring. The contact was made when Roosevelt happened to surf by this site and discovered that we are working on similar projects, which once again proves the value of this internet thing. I personally think its here to stay :o) Thanks for visiting my blog. If you're new here, you should check out this list of my 10 most popular articles. Certified Nursing Assistants A Stepping Stone Towards The Future - CareerAlley
Certified Nursing Assistants A Stepping Stone Towards The Future - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. If you are having thoughts about a nursing assistant career, there are several things you should consider before turning your dreams into reality. This article offers a perspective on nursing jobs, medical careers and future opportunities in the healthcare field. 1. CNA: Who Can Attend And What Happens After Just like any other career, certified nursing assistance careers also rise questions such as Who can attend?, Is there an age limit or degree limits and many more. Lets start by saying that anyone can attend these courses, as long as they are over 18. In terms of degree limits, applicants must hold a high school graduation diploma. CNA courses offer a certificate upon completion. This means you become a certified nursing assistant and are qualified for jobs in the healthcare field. Courses last from 5 weeks to a year, depending on the course curricula. After the students take their final exams, they are presented with a nursing assistant certificate and can get hired right away. Many online resources such as http://www.cnatrainingclass.net/ can provide answers to all questions. 2. Job Requirements Nursing jobs are available in fields such as home healthcare, long term care facilities and hospitals. As with many career-related decisions, becoming a nursing assistant is also influenced by other considerations such as salary and compensation, job location and career perspectives. Sometimes it can be influenced by the type of assistance our patients require, by the level of stress involved and even by the number of working hours per week. For example, in home healthcare, most patients suffer from medical conditions such as cerebral vascular accidents, heart failure and cancer, so nursing assistants are vital for them. But nursing assistants also provide help to healthy people age 60 or higher. Older, healthier patients require help when taking their vital signs, administrating medication or taking baths. Unfortunately, patients can also develop severe symptoms which make them unable to perform daily activities, so a nursing assistant helps them in their daily routine. 3. Career Opportunities As previously mentioned, a CNA course offers its attendees great hiring potential. Basically, anyone who obtained their certificate can get a job right after graduation. And that is not all. Certified nursing assistants can advance in their careers by following other courses such as LPN programs in order to become Licensed Practical Nurses or even RN programs which offers attendees a Registered Nursing Certificate. Right now there are more than 104 specialties for nursing assistants: 34 specialties allow applicants to work outside hospital areas; 68 are more research-oriented, although still interesting and well-paid; 37 specialties are managerial-oriented and a majority of 92 are patient-facing. Salary and compensation are based on experience and start from USD $27 000 annual income to USD $40 000 per year. 4. A Certified Nursing Assistants Work Environment Nursing assistants can work in hospitals, as long as they have patients under their care for more than 25 days. However, nursing assistants can also offer home healthcare services for patients with partially-treated medical conditions who return home. Some patients do not require permanent nursing assistance, while others depend more than 80% on the help of nursing assistants. Through CNA programs, nursing assistants learn the basic medical procedures that are a must in the healthcare field. It is a starting point in aiding the old and the ill. It is also a starting point for anyone aiming for a nursing career. Author bio: Roxana is a soon-to-be Occupational Health Psychologist.
